1. MARINE CORPS MALE AND FEMALE ATHLETES OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED AND ENDORSED BY THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND CHAIN OF COMMAND AT THE ATHLETE'S LOCAL INSTALLATION. NOMINATIONS MAY BE SCANNED AND EMAILED TO:MCCSSPORTSAPPS(AT)USMC(DASH)MCCS.ORG OR FAXED TO 703-784-4125. THE NOMINATION FORM MAY BE FOUND ON THE SEMPER FIT SPORTS WEBSITE AT WWW.USMC-MCCS.ORG/SPORTS.

2. IF A MARINE IS LOCATED AT AN INSTALLATION WITHOUT AN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OR MCCS, THEY MAY SEND APPLICATIONS DIRECTLY TO HQMC (MFS) VIA THEIR CHAIN OF COMMAND. A HEAD AND SHOULDER PHOTOGRAPH MUST ACCOMPANY ALL APPLICATIONS. HIGH RESOLUTION ELECTRONIC PHOTOGRAPHS ARE ACCEPTABLE. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT EACH MCCS SUBMIT AT LEAST ONE FEMALE AND ONE MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

3. QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: A. ATHLETIC: MARINES, WHO HAVE EXCELLED IN INTRAMURAL, VARSITY, ALL-MARINE, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS ARE TO BE CONSIDERED. COMPETITIONS MUST COMPLY WITH AMATEUR REGULATIONS WITHIN NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED GOVERNING BODIES (E.G. USA VOLLEYBALL) OR AFFILIATED ORGANIZATIONS (E.G. AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION) WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE. PROFESSIONAL SPORTS PARTICIPATION IS NOT TO BE A CONSIDERATION. B. MILITARY: MARINES SHALL BE IN GOOD STANDING AND MEET ALL REQUIRED MARINE CORPS STANDARDS.

4. ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE TO HQMC (MFS) NLT 15 NOV 2014. THE SELECTION OF MALE AND FEMALE 2014 ATHLETES OF THE YEAR WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON 1 DEC 2014. ATHLETES WILL BE RECOGNIZED AT THE COMBINED AWARDS CEREMONY HELD AT MCB QUANTICO, VA ON A DATE TO BE DETERMINED.

GENTEXT/REMARKS/1. THE ALL-MARINE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TRAINING CAMP WILL BE HELD 22 OCT THROUGH 5 NOV 2014 AT MCB CAMP PENDLETON, CA. THE ARMED FORCES MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL ALSO BE HELD AT CAMP PENDLETON, CA, 6 THROUGH 14 NOV 2014. MALE MARINES SELECTED FOR THE ARMED FORCES TEAM WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE SUPREME HEADQUARTERS ALLIED POWERS EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP 15 NOV THROUGH 6 DEC 2014 IN CASTEAU, BELGIUM.

2. INTERESTED MARINES MUST SUBMIT A COMPLETED AND SIGNED SPORTS APPLICATION TO HQMC NLT 3 OCT 2014.

3. IF SELECTED, MARINES MUST HAVE A GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CHARGE CARD AND ESTABLISH OR HAVE THE ABILITY TO USE THE DEFENSE TRAVEL SYSTEM FOR ORDERS.

4. APPLICATIONS MAY BE OBTAINED AT WWW.USMC-MCCS.ORG/SPORTS OR FROM THE LOCAL MCCS SEMPER FIT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR. APPLICATIONS MUST CONTAIN COMMAND ENDORSEMENTS. MARINES STATIONED AT INSTALLATIONS WITH A LOCAL MCCS SEMPER FIT WILL SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATIONS THROUGH THEIR SEMPER FIT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FOR ENDORSEMENT. MARINES STATIONED AT A LOCATION WITHOUT A LOCAL MCCS SEMPER FIT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, MUST SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATIONS DIRECTLY TO HQMC (MFS) VIA THEIR CHAIN OF COMMAND. All Marine Athletes of the Year for 2013 Announced

 

HQMC (MR), QUANTICO, VA – Capt Christine M. Taranto and SSgt David S. Arendt Jr. have been selected as the U.S. Marine Corps Female and Male Athletes of the Year for 2013. The pair were honored at the Commandant of the Marine Corps Combined Awards Ceremony at the Clubs of Quantico, aboard MCB Quantico, Va., on February 3, 2014, at 12:30 p.m.


Capt TarantoCapt Taranto, who is currently the Operations Officer and H&S Company Commander at MWSS 272, aboard MCAS New River, NC, was the top female finisher for the All Marine Running team at the 2013 Armed Forces Triathlon Championship and the 2013 Armed Forces Marathon Championship.  She placed sixth overall at Armed Forces Triathlon Championships with a time of 2:12:49.  At the Marine Corps Marathon, she finished in 3:05:09 placing first overall for Active Duty Marine Females.  2013 was the first year Capt Taranto has been available to compete on the All Marine Sports teams due to her consistently high operational tempo.  Capt Taranto has been a competitive athlete since high school, placing top in her state in Cross Country and track.

 

SSgt ArendtSSgt Arendt is currently assigned to the All Marine Wrestling Team aboard Camp Lejeune, NC.  He is a member of the USA National Wrestling Team (Greco Roman style) and is ranked second on Team USA in the 120KG weight class. In 2013, he placed second in the U.S. World Team Trials in the 120KG weight class and earned 2 Gold medals (Greco and Freestyle) at the Armed Forces Championship in the120KG weight class.  He placed first in the 120KG weight class at the US Nationals in Las Vegas, NV.

All-Marine Sports Application

 

Lejeune-New River Intramural Sports

Intramural Sports are offered for unit level participation. Units are notified when an organizational meeting will be conducted for each sport. Unit representatives attend these meeting and then form teams within their command. Individuals interested in participating in Intramural Sports should contact their unit Sergeant Major or Command Master Chief. If your unit does not have a team involved in the sport you wish to participate in, you may participate with another unit team within your Major Command. (Division, Base, MLG, MEF).

Official Team Rosters and Letter of Intent forms can be picked up and turned in to the Sports Office located in Goettge Memorial Field House. Letters of Intent must contain Command endorsement.

The league is open to all Active Duty Military, Retirees, Family Members, and Authorized DoD Civilian Employees age 18+ aboard MCB Camp Lejeune and MCAS New River.
